Tara Harper

Dear Leadership Oklahoma Members,

I am writing to you today to recommend a Duncan native, Ms. Tara Harper, be considered for a Leadership Oklahoma “Helping Oklahoma” prize. Ms. Harper is a deserving applicant for many reasons: she is an avid volunteer, she continues to support the Duncan, Oklahoma community, she has a heart for leadership and she looks to make Duncan a better place to live for all people.

In the interest of time and your effort, I will summarize her volunteerism in the Duncan community and Stephens County area:

-Graduate of Leadership Duncan Class XIV
-Duncan Chamber of Commerce Ambassador
-Nominated as the Ambassador of the Year
-Nominated Woman of the Year in 2012 and 2013
-Al Hinshaw Community Spirit Award nominee 2013 and 2014
-Co-Founder Chris Lane Memorial Foundation
-Director of Chris Lane Memorial 5k
-Bid Bash Committee Member
-Chisholm Trail Arts Council board member
-Chisholm Trail Arts Council Live committee member
-Thunder Ball fundraiser committee
-Oklahoma Community Theatre Association
-Duncan Little Theater committee chairperson
-DLT Board Member
-Lime Lights Award Winner for Best Stage Manager
-United Way of Stephens County Loaned Executive
-Team Leader for United Way’s Day of Caring
-Duncan Jaycees Secretary and co-chair for the annual Christmas Auction

In addition, Ms. Harper has been involved with several different organizations as a volunteer. Her involvement includes, but is not limited to, Crepes for Crepe Myrtles, Gabriel's House, Youth Services for Stephens County, Stephens Co Humane Society, Stephens Co Annual Christmas Dinner, Rotary Club Christmas Auction, A Beautiful Day Duncan and Comanche. She has helped raise thousands of dollars for families in need in our community.

Ms. Harper was impacted directly by the senseless murder of 22-year-old Australian baseball player Christopher Lane. Christopher’s girlfriend, at the time of his death, is Ms. Harper’s first cousin. Due to this relationship, she was very close to Christopher. Since his death, she has poured her energy into the Christopher Lane Foundation and using the foundation to make a difference in the lives of at-risk youth in our area. If Ms. Harper wins this prize, she will donate the full amount to the Christopher Lane Foundation. The prize would aid in setting up an endowment so Christopher’s legacy will live on and on.

I respectfully submit her to you for consideration for this prize.

Best regards,
Marcus McEntire
