Susanne Betz

It is my great pleasure to nominate Susanne Betz for consideration for Leadership Oklahoma’s “Helping Oklahoma” award in recognition of her outstanding leadership and tireless efforts in service to Edmond Mobile Meals and the Edmond community.

Susanne has volunteered with Edmond Mobile Meals since 2013. Edmond Mobile Meals is a 42-year old nonprofit organization that delivers a nutritious meal and provides a daily wellness check, serving 445 clients and 51,000 meals in 2016. The program relies on over 400 volunteers to prepare and deliver over 200 meals each weekday. I’ve never worked with anyone who dedicates as much time and energy as Susanne does to service in the community. She is a tireless supporter of the mission of Edmond Mobile Meals, and her dedication is evident in the over 2,000 hours of personal time she has devoted to the organization.

Susanne serves on the Edmond Mobile Meals Board of Directors as the current President. She delivers meals to clients at least twice each month, and fills in for drivers as a substitute. She volunteers for every event and also assists with the children’s summer program, Little Chef’s Learn to Serve, which is a 3-month program that introduces cooking, safety and community service to children between the ages of 9-11 years old. She has worked as a kitchen volunteer, where she assisted with the preparation and packaging of over 200 meals. She has assisted in the office, answering calls from clients and volunteers. In addition to all of these tasks Susanne devoted at least 10 hours each week to volunteer scheduling and ordering food and supplies.

Toni Washington, Chef/Director of Food Services for Edmond Mobile Meals said “Susanne Betz was a life-saver when she took on the task of organizing our entire meal preparation system. Not only did she ease 10 hours of workload from my plate each week, but she also brought stability to the minds of our volunteers. Her wise counsel makes her very dear to Edmond Mobile Meals and to my heart. Susanne’s organization equipped us to be able to serve more clients, bring on more volunteers, and increase the quality of our meals. She loves Edmond Mobile Meals so much that she dedicated early mornings and late nights to making sure our kitchen staff was covered and our produce deliveries came on time. Her genuine spirit has brought such life to our organization and we are so appreciative for all she does.”

Susanne also spends time volunteering with the H.O.P.E. Center of Edmond and serves on their Board of Directors. She says service to others is one of the best ways to spend her time and energy, and giving back to the community and those in need is the main reason she enjoys volunteering. Susanne is a committed advocate for the homebound citizens in Edmond.

In addition to her volunteer service in the Edmond community, Mrs. Betz has many professional obligations as the wife of Don Betz, President of the University of Central Oklahoma.
