Phyllis Stong

Phyllis Stong of Oklahoma City is an active volunteer and contributor to the Oklahoma City community and plays a key role in the success of Sunbeam Family Services fundraising and volunteer efforts. Every week, one can find Phyllis participating in or chairing various leadership and volunteer groups within Sunbeam. If she isn’t attending an important business meeting at Sunbeam, you can find Phyllis investing her time and energy as a Reading Buddy for the children of Educare, an early childhood education program of Sunbeam.

Phyllis’s history with Sunbeam began in 2001 as founding member of the Friends of Sunbeam, an auxiliary volunteer group. Phyllis served as the Friends of Sunbeam Bylaws Chair, Membership Chair, Secretary, Vice President and President. Phyllis organizes and directs two book fairs each year for children at Educare. She received the Clyde Benn Services to Youth award from Leadership OKC for this contribution.

In 2003 Phyllis became a Sunbeam Board of Director member, serving on various committees including the Sunbeam Executive Committee, Nomination Committee, Shine A Light Committee (Sunbeam’s annual gala fundraiser) and has also held roles as a PQI Chairman and Secretary.

This year Phyllis has also taken on the role as event co-chair for the Shine A Light gala and currently serves on the Sunbeam Board and is chairman of the Fundraising committee.
In addition to donating her time and talent to Sunbeam, Phyllis is also an active volunteer in her church including serving as Sunday school teacher, adult group studies coordinator, and a member of various women’s committees. In the past Phyllis has volunteered with Meals on Wheels and RAIN (Regional Aids Interfaith Network). She has also served on the Board of Directors for the American Amputee Foundation and has been a Girl Scout Troop leader. Phyllis was also a longtime member of the Oklahoma Business and Professional Women’s Inc. where she served in various local and state leadership positions.

Thanks to the efforts of supporters such as Phyllis Stong, Sunbeam continues to provide people of all ages with help, hope and the opportunity to succeed through early childhood education, foster care, counseling and senior services. The time and energy Phyllis has invested in Sunbeam has had, and will continue to have, long lasting effects in breaking the cycle of poverty for Oklahoma’s most vulnerable children, families and seniors.
