Catherine Divis

Sunbeam Family Services enthusiastically nominates Catherine Divis as an exceptional volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference in her community.

Catherine brings an incredible amount of energy and passion to her volunteer efforts with Sunbeam Family Services. Beginning in 2014, she began participating in donation drives for Sunbeam’s then Adopt a Family program which opened the door for her to Sunbeam’s other programs, including Foster Care. Catherine has been one of the most consistent volunteers in the program, recruiting not only her husband but others to come spend a few hours with precious children during the Foster Care In-Service trainings that parents attend with their foster children and biological children. Without the child care volunteers, families would have difficulties attending the necessary trainings.

She serves as a volunteer in Sunbeam and Catholic Charities’ annual Christmas store, A Very Giving Christmas, and has recruited many volunteers to join her in serving more than 600 of the community’s poorest citizens.
In 2015, Catherine graduated from Leadership Oklahoma City’s Linking Oklahoma City’s Young Adult Leaders (LOYAL) class. Catherine’s class chose Sunbeam Family Services as its LOYAL Action Project. This propelled her into an even more invested relationship with Sunbeam as she was instrumental in forming the Beacons, Sunbeam’s Young Professionals Board, which advocates for Sunbeam throughout the community, helping to recruit volunteers and donors. Today, Catherine serves as president of the Beacons.

In addition, as an employee of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma, Catherine participates in her organization’s program that matches employee volunteer hours with dollars that go to nonprofit community partners. Because of Catherine’s more than 60 hours of volunteer service with Sunbeam, BCBSOK presented Sunbeam with a check last March for $1,335. Last September, Catherine nominated Sunbeam’s Emergency Senior Shelter, the only shelter for seniors in the State of Oklahoma, for her organization’s Champion of Health Senior Award. The shelter serves clients 55 and older who have been displaced because of neglect, abuse, financial hardships and mental illness. Sunbeam has a 94 percent success rate of finding residents permanent housing. BCBSOK presented Sunbeam with the Champion of Health Senior Award which included a $5,000 cash award that helped to partially offset a 2016 deficient the shelter had due to state government cutbacks.

Catherine is invested with Sunbeam but also focuses her spirit of volunteerism on other projects in the community including children’s hospitals and food banks.

Please accept our nomination of Catherine Divis because we are confident that she is the most deserving volunteer in our community
